Biotechnology Is a Constantly Developing Science

Biotechnology is a new and constantly developing process and scientists, as well as everyone else, still has a lot to learn about it.

The MU Gene Zoo illustrates the effects of 12 single gene traits of soybeans.

The University of Missouri is home to the National Center for Soybean Biotechnology, which is dedicated to improving soybeans through genetic engineering. 80% of fats and oils consumed in the U.S. are made from soybeans, making it a prime subject for biotechnology and genetic research. Making soybeans more efficient has the potential to increase crop yield, have positive effects on the environment and even improve the health of the consumer. However, all of this does not come without controversy as many question the actual benefits of biotechnology.
